Downtown Jackson, Mississippi, is full of historic civil rights landmarks and old architecture. If you want to be near the museums and historic sightseeing, you'll want to choose from one of the Jackson hotels located downtown.
Jackson hotels located near the fairgrounds and east of downtown are less expensive, though much less luxurious, than hotels found downtown. Northern Jackson is home to many hotels situated along Interstate 55. These hotels offer freeway access but leave you wondering how to get to the city. Jackson's lack of (some would say nonexistent) public transportation makes it difficult to maneuver around the area.
Ridgeland is home to shopping malls, the Natchez Trace Parkway, and Tougaloo College. Farish Street, located west of downtown, was a vibrant community at its peak and was once the center of black culture and politics. The Farish Heritage Street Festival occurs in September.
