Pollen and HumidityWhen biking around J.I we had to stop to wipe pollen out of our eyes. Our clothes and sweaty limbs were green with pine pollen. We couldn't stop for long as the no-see-'ems started biting immediately. The extreme humidity ensures you sweat prodigiously even while doing light activity such as fishing from the pier. Uncomfortable outdoor experiences aside the food at the J.I. Club is excellent. The birding opportunities are great. We found some fairly good seafood restaurants i... More

We found some fairly good seafood restaurants in town and the beach-themed shops were fun to browse. We also enjoyed the unpopulated beaches good for a long private stroll.

you will always return\The first time my family went to Jekyll Island I was sixteen. I have been back several times since then. Every time we go we don't want to leave when the week is up. The beaches are secluded and quiet and never crowded. The best part to me is talking to the employees in the Historical District and learning about the history of the Island. There are tons of tours you can take around the island including a Ghost Walk Tour. The legends and stories from the locals can be very insightful. It is a very wonderful place to go if you are not looking only for beach time. If you are interested in history and local legends as well as some relaxing beach time and fishing then this is the place for you.

My husband and I along with our two Shelties stayed on Jekyll Island during our road trips "up north". At Christmastime there are no tourists...the town is decorated in millions of beautiful lights and the beaches are wide desolate and pristine. I admit it was a little chilly for swimming :o) but a few restaurants remained open as did the old town section. Bring the dog leashes and take LONG walks on the beach! We had a ball and plan a return trip this winter!... More
