Obviously this is a city in a low-income country so expect exactly what that entails but honestly the people of Uganda are the most welcoming and warm people I've ever encountered during my travels (which have been quite extensive). If you're staying in Kampala and feeling overwhelmed by the city take a short drive (STAY AWAY FROM BODA BODAS! Not only are they incredibly dangerous but once you've ridden them the thrill becomes addicting haha.)out into the rural areas -- Jinja is particularly great because it is home to the source of the Nile! Lunch at the Gately on the Nile - it's owned be a lovely Australian woman and offers fantastic views of the river. Closer to Kampala visit the Martyrs shrine at Namagungo. Before you go read up on the history of the shrine - it's a horrific and fascinating story of the beginnings of Christianity in Uganda.
