Most call it the city of brides. I just got back from a 2 week stay. To me I liked the city layout. You can walk to most everything needed. It is not a place to go for sight seeing or travelling Europe for pleasure. It is a great place to see how the people live if you are an outsider voyeur. The women were welcoming and nice to me the men were very rude and disrespectful. I was refered to as TOODEEST meaning tourist and it was in a disrespectful sense. I recommend staying in at nights when the men are drunk on the streets. The city is clean and nice for this part of the world. To me it looked much better than Odessa. I found it easy to walk up to the women and ask if they would like to join me at a cafe most said yes they are very open minded and a bit naive yet curious. The women also do not dress half naked I would say more like 80% naked in the summer which is very hot and muggy. I have also been to Tver Russia (north of Moscow) I liked Kherson better by appearance and womens attitude. English skills are lacking on average food choices very limited. Prices are dirt cheap. Hotel Fregat looks worse in person than their ads online but should be inexpensive. Taxi's are a ripoff walk or get on a bus bus is 30 cents a day. Suggest getting apartment if possible. Many euro hotels share bathrooms with others on your same floor. I was there 13 days spent about 350$. Best advice I can give bring food I lost 12 lbs. Canned stew chili etc will pass through customs not on carry on must be check in luggage. If you like cabbage soup beets and cauliflower then you will love the food in Ukraine if not its diet or fly-it. I was told that you can go to the beach for 20 grivna ($4) by bus. Shopping market is awesome. There is also a wildlife refuge within an hour drive with extreme wild animals also a Swedish village nearby. There are many things to do yet I didnt do them chasing women and catching a few just having fun. Best wishes on your trip!! Dave
