Castles churches a major university and the largest town square in Europe make Krakow a wonderful surprise! The city retains much of its Medieval charm being fortunaltely untouched by World War II. There is also a great old Jewish section. Parks encircle the old part of the city adding greenery bike and walking paths. But most surprising is the trendy fasihions that you find in the boutiques and on Krakow's residents. Not a babushka in sight!... More

We went to Europe to take a river cruise on the Rhine but spent the first few days in Krakow. We stayed at the Polara Hotel old but clean & quaint. Hired a driver by the name of Andrea who picked us up at the airport & took us to our hotel. He also drove us to the Salt mines which is a must see. He drove us to the camps which is a good way to go & made sure we signed up with an English spoken tour group. I was in the American Army of occupation in Germany in 1950 & heard of the camps but never got to see them. The are a horrible monument of mankinds in humanity to fellow human beings.I would normally pick up a pebble as a momento where we travel but not in this evil place. It is a must see keeping in mind it can happen again. The city is very nice with lots to see . Make sure you visit the former Popes church it is beautiful and the central square with its market place. Andrea also drove us back to the Airport at 5 am so we could catch our plane to Munish then onto Amsterdam

Although it has been many years since I visited Poland I will always remember Krakow as one of the most magical cities! The old buildings the carriage rides the artists selling the most wonderful jewelry and carved dolls....and the churches...so unimaginably beautiful!!! The people were very kind to us even then when their country was in turmoil. The article was good but did not give an accurate picture of just how moving a visit to Krakow would be!... More
