Don't really know that much about Lexington but the area surrounding it is beautiful. In June attended the Great American Brass Band festival (www.GABBF.com) in Danville KY which was just great. Small town atmosphere and great bands from all over the country. Will go again for sure. (Don't forget to stand up and remove your hat when they play \My Old Kentucky Home\!)... More

small town feelLiving in Lexington I could be a bit prejudiced but I have lived in such places as Cincinnati Louisville Miami and Seattle...and I always return to Lexington. There are a few reasons for this...the temperate weather the horse country the races lots of greenspace decent downtown great colleges and universities southern hospitality superb food small town feel. Now it does have it's problems i.e. ridiculous traffic due to poor design and layout of the city overpriced housing lower wages than could be expected for a city of that size poor nightlife restrictive laws to hinder growth and development lack of funding to beautify and improve an old downtown.April and October would be two of the best times to visit Lexington. This would be due to the Keeneland Race Course (www.keeneland.com) being open for live racing. People get dressed up bet the horses and drink fine KY bourbons. Tailgate on the racetrack grounds in the morning (10am) go to the race at the 1:10pm post time then go out for a spectacular dinner at the many restaurants in town. Lexington is purported to have more restaurants per capita than any other city in the US and I would believe it. For only having 285000 people there has to be at least 5000 eating establishments in the city.
