This Nature Conservancy property is a former sugar plantation built in the 1730s by the first Danish governor of St. Croix, Fredrik Moth. On 24 of the original 200 acres, the estate has myriad structures in varying stages of repair. The great house, built in the 1830s, serves as the centerpiece. The plantation also has a hospital, windmill, sugar and rum factory, laborers' village and gardens connected by walking paths. Since the estate sees fewer visitors than other historical sites, it is a peaceful place to explore the islands plantation history. Donations are accepted, but no credit cards.
