Lorensbergsteatern is the elegant theatre by Lorensberg with four big white columns framing the palatial entrance. The theatre opened in 1916 with 'A Dream Play' by renowned Swedish dramatist August Strindberg. It was the most modern theatre in the country, with Sweden's first rotating stage and a lighting system that was so innovative for its time that the audience likened it to a revolution in light. In 1934, Lorensberg started showing films instead. The theatre company moved to Stadsteatern, where they stayed until 1987 when Lorensberg again became a playhouse. It was the comedy shows Galenskaparnaand After Shave that reconsecrated this as a theatrical venue, and since then there's been a steady stream of plays, shows and musicals here. The theatre lies slightly obscured behind the Main Library, but in a very central location close to Götaplatsen. For hours, repertoire and tickets, see their website.
