I love Madrid for may reasons and I have visited it many times. I felt inlove with Madrid in 1952 when I went there during my honeymoon trip to Europe. It is not a bargain to shop in Spain anymore, but still I love to window shop, specially the wonderful department stores that can put to shame ours that are pretty good. I love the many restaurants, but I try to avoid tourist traps, where shows included. As in many other c ities in Europe they are expensive and the food mediocre. The Pra ... Madrid is a wonderful city

We liked the city a lot. It is very easy to get around and most of the sites are in the center of the city. It is a bit more expensive with the Euro than it used to be with Pesetas to get around in a taxi, but it is still pretty reasonable. The food is great and there are plenty of restaurants that are open until very late. Do take into consideration that most Spanish businesses follow a different schedule. I lived overseas for over 20 years in numerous cities on 4 continents. Loved them all, but by far, Madrid was my favorite. I lived there for 5 1/2 years and loved it. The people were very friendly and generous, the food and variety of it was great, eating 5 meals a day with the largest in the middle and the others all smaller is much healthier, the cultural aspects are plentiful from the Prado to the outdoor Sculpture Museum under an underpass on a main thoroughfare, a world class zoo, Plaza ...
