We liked the city a lot. It is very easy to get around and most of the sites are in the center of the city. It is a bit more expensive with the Euro than it used to be with Pesetas to get around in a taxi, but it is still pretty reasonable. The food is great and there are plenty of restaurants that are open until very late. Do take into consideration that most Spanish businesses follow a different schedule. The Prado Museum was a bit disappointing compared to the Louvre and the National Gallery in London, but it is still worth visiting. Make sure you call and make a reservation the night before your visit to avoid really long lines. We loved the architecture of the city, the sites and, most of all, the people. They couldn't be friendlier. I think your attitude toward them and their culture and a bit of Spanish will go a long way in helping you get what you need. One of the nicest things about the city is that people go out every night. There is always a festive mood. The Retiro Park is the most beautiful we've seen and we've seen quite a few in London and Paris. The Temple of Debod and the park where it is located are charming and relaxing. Sunsets are beautiful there. Don't miss the Convent of the Descalzas Reales. It is wonderful. The Almudena Cathedral and the Royal Palace with the Plaza de Oriente are also quite beautiful.
