Out Islands

The Out Islands consist of all the Bahamas except the major islands of Grand Bahama, New Providence and Paradise Island. The Out Islands are comprised of a few large islands (like Andros and Eleuthera) and hundreds of cays (small islands; pronounced "key"). Some of the cays are inhabited, but many are uninhabited and others are privately owned. Most of the Out Islands are barely developed, making them ideal for those wishing to experience an untouched tropical paradise. The Abacos

The Abacos are a cluster of over 100 cays, most of which are uninhabited, in the northeastern region of the Bahamas. Known for crystal clear waters and favorable winds, the Abacos have earned a reputation as the sailing capital of the Bahamas. The two main islands, Great and Little Abaco, both offer pristine lagoons and inlets that promote a sense of seclusion and peace that is unrivaled even in other parts of the Caribbean.

Great Abaco Island, the largest of the Abacos, is home to the third largest city in the Bahamas, Marsh Harbour. One of the most... more

As far as beaches go you will not find a better one than in Abaco. This is a place where you do nothing. We were there a week and did nothing but read and ride a bike around the Island. I would recomend this to anybody who wants to go somewhere to just lay back and do nothing but enjoy the beauty of the beach the water and the island and the people. I can't wait to go back. This is one of my all time places to go to get away from it all. ... More

Abaco BahamasIt's hard to beat the beauty of Treasure Cay Beach and the clarity of the water in the Abacos. Treasure Cay is easy to get to from Ft Lauderdale Miami and West Palm Beach FL. It's not the cheapest place to go but you can find reasonable enough rentals and there's a pretty decent amount from which to choose. To make the most of the area you should rent a boat ot take one of the local ferryboats to explore the other nearby islands. It's a safe and wonderful place for families and ... More

My wife and I stayed at the Club Med Columbus Isle in Jan. 2006 and had a great time. The island is very small and isolated and Club Med is really the only resort outside of a few small hotels. In contrast there are many beautiful beaches most of them deserted. There is a small town but you don't go there for the nightlife. I biked halfway around the island in a few hours and the road skirts the shore making for a very scenic ride. There are also some hills that provide good views. We real... More

I biked halfway around the island in a few hours and the road skirts the shore making for a very scenic ride. There are also some hills that provide good views. We really loved the Club Med we've been to a number of them and this was the best and its only a few minutes ride from the airport. Snorkeling is wonderful and though we don't dive many people at the resort did and said it was great. To get there its a short flight from Miami and when we went we flew with Spirit Airlines though it was a charter operated by Club Med.
