MexicoWhen you first cross into Tijuana Mexico by foot from the U.S. you are immediately knocked over by the smell of sewage from an vented underground pipe. Recovering from this you immediately notice the dirt and filth. There is a definite air of tension as you walk
around certain uneasiness that it's not a safe country to visit. And you're right. The police are corrupt tourist have been assaulted robbed kidnapped and disappeared from the face of the earth. As you make haste to get back to the American side after a day of looking at empty tourist shops and streets you are met with a long line of border crossers with the same thought as you-GET MY ASS BACK TO THE STATES!!! Don't travel to Tijuana for any reason it's not worth it!!!! Even the locals acknowledge the dangers and some Mexicans who live stateside will tell you some horrific stories that you could ever imagine i.e. headless bodies hanging from road overpasses.

Mexico... \Tijuana\ A Jewel of MexicoI know the media reports of the drug cartel and crime in the streets. But take a closer look and you'll see the streets are a certain side of town. Simply stay away from this side of town especially during the night as the partying crowd comes out at night & the trouble begins. I feel there is the same crime and corruption all over the world / in "their areas." I stayed in the business district in Tijuana and not only did I feel safe enough to travel by foot to nearby destinations... I fell in love with the people of Tijuana. Tijuana itself is beautiful (away from the crowded market where all tourists seem to flock to). The buildings and horticulture are very European quite cool. I say people need to open their minds as well as their hearts and they too will see Tijuana in a different light.
