The old village of Malatestiano di Mondaino holds many surprises: the circular Piazza Maggiore with a neoclassic colonnade rich in arches, fort with a view over the sea, the Paleontological Museum rich in animal fossils, and the botanical park with interesting specimens of Mediterranean flora, to only mention what is concealed inside. The castle was built in the 14th Century by the Mondainese and then shaped by the Malatesta who constructed 13 towers (no longer existing), the caisson, the large ring of walls, as well as the communications trenches and underground tunnels probably intended for military use or as storehouses and cisterns, which can no longer be visited. The "Palio del Daino" takes place during the third weekend of August and is an event that has become famous throughout Italy: the village returns to the 1500s by focusing on the history and traditions surrounding that era.
