Montserrat, Montserrat Reviews and Ratings

Unfortunately the person who wrote the article about the people of Montserrat not being friendly he did not quite mention what horrible attitude he or she had. In any place that you visit if you are arrogant and nasty you will receive the same. I grew up in Montserrat but was born in the NetherlandsAntilles went to Montserrat at the age of 3 and left in my teenage age. I have made several trips to Montserrat never mentioning that I have ties to Montserrat and have always found people quite friendly and yes things are quite overpriced like every place. How dare he call Montserrat a dump.

I do not know that AOL user who was a medical student there but it is strange that Montserrat that was called ' stranger's paradise' was rude to him. I must admit things were grossly over priced but that is the way of a tourist town. If someplace is a dump to someone just leave. There were many other islands in the caribbean that had medical schools.About the service Montserratians are free and proud people. Everyone there knows everyone. Even our Chief Minister played marbles with us so there he is one of us. There is no formality on the island maybe that was why the rock stars loved to go to Montserrat.I want to guess that you are from Nigeria and that would explain it. Look at your country

Lived there for 2+ years while in Medical school there. The place is a complete dump everything is grossly overpriced the people are not warm and friendly in fact they're down right arrogant and rude. You eat at a 'restaurant' the food is garbage the service is rediculous and to top it off they take as much as a tip as they want without your permission and there is nothing you can say or do about it. When I was leaving that hell hole their customs at the airport insisted in rummaging through my luggage and camera bag insted of opening the camera bag and looking inside they just dump it out onto the makeshift counter my Hasselblad and lenses fall onto the concrete floor and bounce a couple of times damaging one of my lenses (150mm f:4) all the idiots do is scoop it all up and dump it back into the bag with not so much as an apology forget about being compensated. My advice to anyone considering going there is DON'T you will regret it big time but if you go anyway Do Not take anything of value you might not be coming home with it.

Why don't cruise ships call at Montserrat. Apparently the threat of an erruption has diminished. We also have monitoring devises to warn of an erruption. I have never been there and don't want to pay the outrageous air fare that are listed.
