We cruised the Mediterranean and had a one day stop on Mykonos. Our guide said Mykonos means \pile pf rock\ which is appropriate. While not the prettiest place we visited it had a certain visual charm with vitually every building being white with blue trim. We found the people of Mykonos to be unfriendly to tourists. At the close of our tour in Mykonos town our guide advised everyone on the tour that we could either have free time (shopping) in the town and catch a shuttle back to the ship OR stay on the bus and the driver will take us back now. I can only guess that either she didn't tell the driver or he just didn't like the idea. He grumbled in Greek as we pulled away from the town. About 3 miles out of town on a narrow but busy highway the driver stopped and ordered all of us off the bus. An argument ensued him in Greek and me in English. That went nowhere. The only thing I understood was if we refused to leave the bus he was going to the airport. We had no choice if we wanted to make it back to town in time to get a shuttle back to the ship before the ship left port. So we (all seniors and one guy on a walker) walked along the dangerous highway in the heat back to and through the town to find the shuttles. It was a bad experience. The driver's behavior was an act of selfishness to most or us but downright cruel to the handicapped guy. Fortunately we took care of him and his wife. They were in their late 70s.
