The Naples area of Italy is every bit as interesting as Rome and not nearly as crowded. It is also less expensive than Rome. There is a good (and inexpensive) public transportation network and the hotels of of Piazza Municipio are a real bargin (try the Medeteraneo or the Jolly Hotel) at about $120 per night. Italy is wonderful and you should feel at ease driving there - except Naples. Whatever you do don' t drive there. Traffic laws are mere suggestions. They will pass ANYWHERE. We saw one car passing another car that was passing another car - three wide going around a corner in a no passing zone.But go there anyway and don't miss Pompei. It will be one of your Italian trip highlights guaranteed.... More
