1.Right frame of mind

We went on two Bahamian cruises. One with POC in Nassau & Cocoa Key. The other trip was to Grand Isle. On the first our ship was awesome. Like a floating 5 star hotel. Newly renovated the christmas prior to our summer trip. Our guests included 7 Lots to do from 12 - 45. Food and lots of it was great. Nassau was underwhelming at first...once we got out of the port the sites and people improved tremdously. Make your deals they will bargin in the shops. Cocoa Key was a private island and you could find groups or seclution...whatever you wanted. Parasailing was awesome the water is indescribable...The second trip was even better to Grand Isle. Lots of shops excursions and sites. We rented jeeps and were toured to some off-beat spots including caves secluded beaches and tropical water falls.... We went in a large group of 20-30 but 4 to a jeep so it seemed less crowded then that. the tour guide used two way radios to describe the sites and we had handouts for more detail. Was served lunch on the beach and snacks along the way...definatly worth it and we would go back !

2.what to expect

If you go in on a cruise ship expect for the locals nearby to beg. It is like major cities here with the homeless. However get away from the port and its a different place. It is beautiful the people are respectful answer your questions point you in the right direction. We rented scooters the last time we were there and you get out to the other side of the island and its laid back. We went to the Smirnof distillary and missed the tour but the gentleman running the gift shop and bar area was exte... More

You just have to know you've got to get away from the vultures in the port.

We took our first cruise and was very excited to visit the bahamas. When we arrived in nassau I could not belive how diry the Island was. We paid to go on an Island tour. We learned about the crack addicts and thieves! There was trash in the streets and the \nice\ houses had razorwire around them. I expected to visiit a tropical paradise and we could have stayed home and visited our local \Projects\ and seen better. We should have just stayed on the ship. And if they do not like American... 4.Nassau's Atlantis Aquaventure is Fabulous!

We took a Bahamas cruise March 2008 and all I can say is that Nassau's Atlantis was the most beautiful amazing place on God's earth! So much for the family to do and see and we never felt crowded rushed or pressured. We walked a good bit but had so much fun sun and relaxation! I don't know where the \complainers\ went but they wasted their time by not going here. If there is a next time for you go here! It's worth the time and money. We took cruise with our 3 teenage kids and docked in Nassau as soon as we hit the main street my younger son was asked for money - supposedly for the poor children - like we bought that!!!! Then walking around shopping a drunk was giving a store owner a hard time and asking us for money!!! This was my kids first cruise and it wasn't at all what I wanted for them - wouldn't cruise there ever again even w/o my kids. Found it to be dirty and not eye appealing. However I've heard that if u stay in one the beautiful hotels it's a different story just stay away from the heart of Nassau!!! Watch your purses and wallets!!!
