Negil's 7 mile beach was rated the best in the Carribbean and Top Ten in the World by the Travel channel. The sand is like sand box sand. No shells etc due to the reef one mile out.It is the safest city in Jamaica. there's no place for criminals to hide out. IT's all tourism. No building can be higher than four stories so it doesn't look developed. There's also five miles of cliffs for great snorkeling and diving. Unlike Mexico pot is easy to buy and you won't get busted. Hedo 2 is a blast I went with my spouse not realy knowing what I was getting into but once there found that the people and the staff were so welcoming of people like me. I had a blast. Plan on staying up late meeting lots of new people and going as far with that as your comfortable with. This resort is for the wide open souls as well as the more prude and uncomfortable but by the time you leave you probably will have done some things you wouldnt ever do back home kind of like Vegas. Plan on staying up late meeting lots of new people and going as far with that as your comfortable with. This resort is for the wide open souls as well as the more prude and uncomfortable but by the time you leave you probably will have done some things you wouldnt ever do back home kind of like Vegas. Lots of fun for everyone and if you were ever curious about seeing people realy get loose or wanted to yourself you realy should go. The price is more than reasonable and you will have any and all of the food and activities that other resorts offer but just a little edgier. If you dont feel like joining a wild party or activity thats fine but the staff will help you aclimate and you will take chances and do silly things that you will laugh about for years to come. I would caution that leaving the resort is at your own risk as the locals when I went were pushy and a little intimidating but you can stay at Hedo 2 for a week and not need to go anywhere else. There is so much to do with hourly activities everyday. Try it and you will love it.

I've been visiting Negril religiously since 1991. Though I am not excited about the large scale development of large hotels that has occurred in that time but there is still a tremendous amount of wonderful locally owned and operated properties that are well worth the visit. The crowd has gotten more prudish over the years but in general there is a sense of hedonistic delight anywhere you go. I love a few places in particular... Alfred's on the beach is a must and if Orv is playing at Margaritaville don't miss him - he is the next best thing to seeing Jimmy Buffett. If you have kids Margaritaville is sort of the McDonald's of Negril. They have a swingset and slide and you can drink margaritas or rum punch while they play. Our 5 year old had her cheeseburger in paradise for her 5th birthday and it was a wonderful trip.Negril has something for everyone though. Hedo 2 is a lot of fun if the place is busy and assuming you are a free spirit who likes frisky and sexy attitudes all around you. The Jungle is a newish (and also a younger persons') playplace with great dancing into the early hours. Walking the wonderful beach is not only great exercise but there are so many wonderful mom and pop places along the way for a cold redstripe etc.... The Southern half of the beach is more of this sort of thing with the North end being more dominated by the newer all inclusive properties that don't let you wander onto the property. Then there is West End which is really the South end of Negril but hey who am I to tinker with what works. This is the most spectacular place visually... stunning contrasts between the water and the cliffs. There are famous staples like Rick's cafe but also wonderful little niche's like 3 dives for the best Jerk Chicken in the area. Rock House and LTU pub for finer dining and The Caves or Tensing Pen for wonderful places to stay.I can only begin to share how wonderful Negril is. Do yourself a favor stay 10+ days!
