Being of Indian origin I was looking forward to my first trip to the motherland. Nothing could have prepared me for the horrible experience I experienced during my short stay there. First, the Indian counsulate in New York lost my passport because of the lack of organization an orderly in obtaining a visa. That should have been a red flag for me. However, once I arrived in Delhi the stench and the poverty was evident at the airport which became magnified as you toured the country. I actually felt unsafe with my belongings. Leaving the country was a nightmare with the gentleman at the passport control along with his cronies trying to persuade me to leave my rupees with them not to mention give them dollars or else! The Indians have bragging rights for having the richest man in the world but they can also admit to not carring about their own people judging from the hundreds of thousands of homeless people unike the good old USA. I won't be going back anytime soon.
