This fort, the oldest on the island, dating from 1741, still stands as a testament to British engineering. The stronghold never saw much battle, save the time it was occupied for a short period by U.S. naval legend John Paul Jones during the American Revolutionary War. Visitors are welcome to explore the grounds on their own as there are no tours conducted. The area is surrounded by a public beach.
