Be Sure to Pack an Extra Wallet 
The falls are a must see.  They are spectacular in the summer as well.  They have wonderful fireworks most of the year round.  I believe you should pack your own food though.  If you plan on taking a family vacation.  I recommend to just drive on up  and shop around for motels outside Niagara, the expense of things are OUTRAGEOUS.  We took our 2 year old daughter with us, and the very first night we ate at DENNY's, we ordered 2 grand slam breakfasts, and one child breakfast for 1.99, and of course 2 drinks for the adults.  Our order came to be over 50.00 dollars.  This should give you an idea, the waiter across the street from Denny's told us that Niagara Falls Denny;s is the most expensive Denny's in the world.  I believe that is very true.  Just be sure to pack your own drinks for family vacations, and try asking around for cheaper places to eat.  I would not trade the trip for anything, but I just know that next time we plan to go, we will take a credit card as well, because they have currency exchange, but if you pay with credit , you don't have to worry about it.
