The N'berg Christmas market may be the largest in Europe. Long row upon row of stalls with ornaments food and yes a few gloves and socks. If you are a shopper looking for the best array of offerings this is the place. As others have noted the sausages are about the best in Germany. Pretty central area - neat bridges rushing water old buildings etc. A great base for visiting Bamberg [another great market] and not too far from Rothenburg Ob der Tauber a tourist mecca but one which should be ... My wife is from Erlangen which is not far from Nuremberg. Erlangen is home of Seamans. We went over in 2003 and would love to back to stay. Everything was so orginized we could learn a lot here in the US from Germany. We are hoping to go back this year if we can swing it. I loved NurnbergDE The people were very friendly. We stayed in a small hotel right in the \old town\. We visited the beautiful new museums. The landmark churches have the scars of the WW2 war on them. The city is 900+ years old and the history is so interesting. We loved the outdoor market places. They had a wine festival while we were there. We were there also in 2000. I would love to go for Christmas market. The Bavarian beer is fabulous. I also love the small nurberger sausages. Delicious with potato salad. The city has many Nord Sea fish restaurants where we also enjoyed the food. The architecture is lovely and again I say the people are very friendly. The Underground (subway) is clean and efficient.
