11.Oakland has great potential!

I used to live in Hayward and San Leandro which are right next to Oakland and I LOVE Oakland. I love the overpriced homes and I love the neighborhoods. It amazes me that the poor people live so much better than poor people in LA. The cost of living is high but tell me have you ever seen a bad neighborhood on top of a hill with a great view??? Oakland has too much unspoiled beauty to be wasted on crime.

love it or fix itOakland is like any other urban area the suburbs are getting further away because of the cost of housing the dwindling tax base and the desire for malls. The city is a hidden treasure which suffers from the usual problems of a city but it still offers a lot. Flying into Oakland is cheaper than SF. Restaurants and hotels cost less than SF. Restaurants remain very competitive and you cannot find a Genovas Deli Fenton's Ice Cream or Neldam's Bakery any where else. The Roc... More

The Rockridge area of Oakland is very nice with it's shops and restaurants... Jack London Square offers some of the nicest restaurants and shops... It's too bad that Oakland is getting such a bad rap... If you don't like what you see volunteer to change it... If you think the city is in a bad way make changes to improve it... It's too bad that there are so many more complainers or winers than \builders.\ Walk around Lake Merritt-it's a winner...
