I went to school just across the river in Hull Quebec. I visited Ottawa frequently primarily for shopping the wonderful market. In addition there is a rich cultural life and the level of education is very high. Nightlife is across the river however in Hull. Public transportation via bus is very good and there is a great pedestrian area downtown. The winters are bitter; all the canals freeze and become ice-skating rinks. I had the pleasure of coming into Ottawa on the freeway in an 18 wheeler. I was listening to a local radio station hearing the Dj lament about the terrible drivers there while I tooled my big truck through traffic amazed at how the automobiles gave me all the room I needed gave me the right of way in tight spots I was having a wonderful driving experience and thinking how it would be nice if I had the same conditions in my USA I turned to another radio frequency!!... More

Our son attended U of Ottawa which gave us an excuse to visit it several times. Summer it is lovely particularly around the canal area; winter it is bitter bitter cold and yet the pubs and downtown life offer lots of warm places to enjoy music and good food with international flavor. The museums are great the people diverse. Just lovely.... More
