I went to school just across the river in Hull, Quebec. I visited Ottawa frequently, primarily for shopping the wonderful market. In addition, there is a rich cultural life and the level of education is very high. Nightlife is across the river, however in Hull. Public transportation via bus is very good and there is a great pedestrian area downtown. The winters are bitter; all the canals freeze and become ice-skating rinks. I had the pleasure of coming into Ottawa on the freeway in an 18 wheeler. I was listening to a local radio station, hearing the Dj lament about the terrible drivers there, while I tooled my big truck through traffic, amazed at how the automobiles gave me all the room I needed, gave me the right of way in tight spots, I was having a wonderful driving experience and thinking how it would be nice if I had the same conditions in my USA, I turned to another radio frequency!! ... Diversity and culture

Our son attended U of Ottawa, which gave us an excuse to visit it several times. Summer it is lovely, particularly around the canal area; winter it is bitter bitter cold, and yet the pubs and downtown life offer lots of warm places to enjoy music and good food with international flavor.
