San Sebastian, Spain

The former name of this palace was "Real Casa de Campo de Miramar" (Royal Miramar Country House). It was built by Queen María Cristina upon the old site of the San Sebastián monastery. The palace was designed by architect Selden Wornum and constructed between 1889 and 1893. This palace imitates the style of English country houses, but incorporates neogothic features, a local tradition. Although the building has undergone quite a bit of modifications to adapt it to its current function as conference center, a part of the building's original layout is still preserved: the ground floor is a reception area, former bedrooms are on the first floor, and servants' quarters are on the second floor. The entire palace is surrounded by large gardens, offering wonderful panoramic views of the bay.
