great resort town on the Baltic SeaWe visited Palanga for 2 days and had a wonderful time. Palanga is a lovely resort town with many historic houses bed and breakfasts and modern hotels on the beach. It has a boardwalk which goes out to the Baltic Sea. The boardwalk is charming. It is filled with great cafes music venues rides shops parks and great places to sit and peoplewatch.
We noticed there were people there from many different countries and they all seemed to be enjoying themselves. It has none of the seedy qualities we often associate boardwalks on the Atlantic Coast. It was clean the restaurants were charming. THere were mostly families and young travelers.
Palanga has one of the biggest amber museums in the world. It is located in an old castle with beautiful parklike grounds with lakes and bridges to walk over. It is beautifuly landscaped and has great photo ops for the family.
The Baltic sea itself is beautiful and warm enough to swim in in about August and September. Sunbathing is pleasent from May to October.
