I was in Penang for 1 week and really loved it. The People were very friendly, helpful, and went out of thier way to see that I was taken good care of. The Evergreen Laurel Hotel has every amenity needed with a fabulous breakfest bar of over 100 items. The food in the hotel resturant is excellent. My favorite places to eat were the coffee shops. They are everywhere and you just order from whatever vendor you like, give them the table number and pay VERY little for it. There was not one single thing I ate while there that I did not like!! The People of Malaysia also liked it that a westerner was willing to try their native food and enjoy them. My favorite was hokkian mee (hok-en-me), it is very spicy, which I also like.
I would suggest trying it all but at least these, Hokkian Mee, Laksa, Rojak, Satay, Muar Chee, Char Koay Teow, Chee-Cheong-Fun (pig intestine noodle). It is not really pig intestine and hard to eat with chop sticks because it is very slick, but it is GREAT!!
