I agree sometimes Pittsburgh can feel a little frozen in time but that is what attracts me. Mostly in the good ways such as; people are still friendly a ready smile and chat with most you come in contact with ethnic neighborhoods and churches GREAT food (I've found none better). Granted I was born and raised there and you can bet I will die there (unless I die within the next 2 yrs) Dirty? Granted I was born and raised there and you can bet I will die there (unless I die within the next 2 yrs) Dirty? Not at all who ever said it was dirty must have been visiting some of the smaller ghost milltowns on the outskirts... those towns have had a very tough time surviving after the mills closed in the 80's. The air quality is good. Museums and theatre the National Aviary Phipps Conservatory... and about an hour north more great shopping Amish... the list is endless.

People that say that Pittsburgh is dirty must be blind. Compared to other big cities (NYC Paris Rome Barcelona DC Miami Atlanta Philadelphia...etc) will know that Pittsburgh is a very clean and safe city. Of course it is not on the same scale as NYC or LA but thats what makes it unique and charming. Also the comments about the weather are hilarious. Of course the weather in Pittsburgh is not picture perfect but it certainly no worse than it is anywhere in the North East. If you want sun 24/7 365 then you shouldnt be looking anywhere north of DC. Bottom line if you want a clean safe and picturesque city that has four distinct seasons great restaurants lively nightlife and is not overwhelmingly enormous then Pittsburgh is a great place to visit.

5.I Would Live There

I was born and raised in Pgh and left in my teens. I had a career in the Department of Defense for many years. I have traveled extensively. I live in a suburb of Washington D.C. and it does not compare to the great neighborhood restaurants found in Pgh. The D.C. area is full of chain restaurants. I like the fact that there are ethnic neighborhoods and people will speak to you at a bus stop. How quaint is that! I think they spend more for food there than where I live but that's becaus... More

I live in a suburb of Washington D.C. and it does not compare to the great neighborhood restaurants found in Pgh. The D.C. area is full of chain restaurants. I like the fact that there are ethnic neighborhoods and people will speak to you at a bus stop. How quaint is that! I think they spend more for food there than where I live but that's because there isn't as much competition for the food dollar. Housing. on the other hand is a bargain. You can rent a house with a mahoghany staircase and plaster walls with the type of architectural details that you don't find in new homes anymore. That kind of craftsmanship in homes is long gone. My neice is renting one for 700 bucks a month and it has three bedrooms and two baths. If I didn't have commitments here I would move back there in a heartbeat. And If you're retired the state doesn't tax your retirement. There is no tax on food or clothes.
