Recently visited London on a family vacation. Instantly fell in love with everything. Big Ben, Buckingham Palace, London Eye, everything. Can't wait to return on our next vacation.

London for the most part beautiful, exciting city to visit. Found extremely nice people as well as extremely rude. Museums awesome, wonderful experience for the children. Public transport can get you where ever you need to go. Yes, you can get knocked over if you are not careful during rush hours, like that doesn't happen in New York? The rest of the country has a lot to offer as well. Wales beautiful, the Cotswolds, enchanting, etc. Well worth an extended vacation and well planned tour. Many excellent bed and breakfasts available all around the entire country. Pubs are incredible happy and fun places, be friendly and you will get friendly back. British food does have something to be desired but we did find a few great places with fine meals.

If you appreciate historic places you will love London. My wife and I have been there 15 times and we still find new places to discover, not so many but a few. My advise is be daring and forget about a tour with a guide. With some dedicated planning you will have a much better time as we did and you can set your own pace. The underground is the best way to travel and it is easy. Take a bus off peak hrs. Give yourself at least 1 week or more and purchase a 1 week t.ravel pass which allows travel on the tube trains and buses within the zone you choose. It is the best deal in town and you will save time by avoiding lines. If you have a limited budget look into The Royal National Hotel. It is the largest in London and one of the cheapest but clean. We stayed there once as our regular hotel was being renovated and for the price it was fine. It is in a decent part of town about 2 blocks from The British Museum. Food is far better that when we first began our visits back in 1989. Pub meals are exceptional values. Now for the very bad news: The current exchange rate is about $2.20 for 1 British Pound and you can expect to pay 1 pound for items we get here for about 1 dollar. Example; a large Pizza Hut pizza with toppings here= about $ 13. In London we paid $25 US. earlier this year. At this time The UK is the most expensive destination over seas.

The AOL feature writer states, "Big Ben, Parliament, the Palace of Westminster. They can all be found in Westminster Abbey." How can that be? Westminster Abbey is a church. Actually, Big Ben and the houses of Parliament are all a part of the Palace of Westminster. Westminster Abbey is across the street.
