I loved Poipu Beach, perfect for swimming and little kids, protected by reef. A nice place to change and a restaurant overlooking beach. Quiet, unlike Waikiki. The drive up through the canyon was like going to the Grand Canyon. The drive up and back was like something out of a movie - not for the sqeamish. One side of the island is rainless the other the most rain anywhere in the world, strange. I'd go back again - if I had the money.... More

WE lived on Kauai in the mid-80's and it was a two year paid vacation...the gardens,Fern Grotto, Ono Burger, Charo's...don't know if the food dives are still there, but until you've smelled sugar being crushed you will never know how sickening sweet it can be. The people are lovely, the little towns, Waimea, fresh fish at Eleele, Sunday brunches at the hotels...would kill to move back. Snorkeling with my son at Poipu...priceless!... More

Stayed at the Nihi Kai Villas for the 2nd time. Absolutely gorgeous, views of the beach and the mountains, spectacular sunsets. Snorkeling at Poipu is phenomenal - the water is crystal clear, the reef is home to many species of colorful fish indigenous to only Hawaii. Brennecke's Beach Broiler has the nicest bartenders who make the BEST Pina Coladas ANYWHERE! The shopping is great, the churches are wonderful, the people are fantastic.
