As a local of Port Aranas for 11 years my favorite places to eat are not the tourist oriented restaurant. I think the best burgers in town are at South Swell (a walk up window-style place on Ave. G at Station) where the roasted poblano burger takes the cake. Fins Ice House and Grill while pricey offers up a great menu of many options in a great location right next to Deep Sea Headquarters in the city marina. Sit out back and enjoy the view of the fishing boats coming in while eating an appetizer order of shoe string onion rings. Shells has a great lunch but have been disappointed in their dinners the last few times. Beach Lodge is great right on the beach....border burger is great! Moby Dick's and Beach and Station Grill have the best breakfast on the island (Moby's has a Texas Eggs Benedict to die for and Beach St. offers some of the best pancakes anywhere....with pecans!). Rent some surfboards or take lessons from the Port A Surf Co. (Chris can answer any and all questions about Texas surfing and instructor Jay can teach you to surf even when the water is flat). Bay fishing from Rough Times Guide Service makes for great fishing of trout and redfish and Offshore charters thru Deep Sea Headquarters are great for snapper tuna etc... Rent a vacation home from Coastline Adventures or like another reviewer SeaShell Village is a great little hotel with antique furniture and a great location. Captains' Quarters is a pet friendly hotel. Stay away from the Best Western....have heard from several that it smells. :) Port A is a great town to live in and hospitable for every budget and vacation style. :)

I have been going to Port A since 1968 when I was a child. Yes it has changed but overall it is the best beach town I have ever been to. I was even lucky enough to live there for a short while. I have also lived in Florida and currently live in Southern California...but where do I yearn to go when anyone says beach??? Port A of course! While there are now lots ofgood places to eat Mrs. Petes will always be first in the hearts of Port A regulars who still remember it as the only game in town. ... More

It's the only place to be on the Texas coast. Great food nice beach that you can drive on good enough waves to surf and excellent fishing. Port A is very laid back. The ferry ride to the island is always a favorite with the kids they love the dolphins and pelicans. You can hunt sand crabs at night. La Playa is excellent mexican food Island Cafe for breakfast. Pat Magees surf shop is no longer (very sad) but Port A surf shop is pretty good. You can walk out too the end of the jetty (1 mile... More

Port A is a great little town with lots of good restraunts. Many things to do. Great shopping. It is family oriented but spring break will be very busy with teens. My only complaint would be the part of the beach that is maintained by the county. Really could use more seaweed clean up. Never go without a rake.... More

We first ate at the Crazy Cajun 20 years ago when the husband/wife team were the only employees. The recipe's have not changed. Still delicious. Virginia's on the harbor is also good for their boiled shrimp. We arrived there about 3:00pm and ate 1/2 lb of boiled shrimp while watching the fishing boats come in with their daily catch. Of course there's always the old standby: Whataburger and Dairy Queen. We ate at Shell's once. Overpriced and the food was just fair. Island Cafe is the best... More

I've been frequenting Port A since it's sand was new.
