Traveled to Hannibal MO for large-group get-together 31 Jul - 3 Aug 2009. Traveled to Hannibal MO for large-group get-together 31 Jul - 3 Aug 2009. Flew into Quincy Regional Airport from main hub at St Louis: Quincy was very convenient--Great Lakes Airlines (Beechcraft S1900) was friendly service and a nice flight from St. Louis. The Hertz agent was waiting with my rental car; and it was a very nice drive over to Hannibal. Our group stayed at the Quality Inn just west of Hannibal--very nice and reasonable accommodations for our group, including an excellent evening buffet catered by Fiddlesticks Restaurant next door to the motel--Fiddlesticks itself was a great place to eat, as well. We took an evening ride on the Mark Twain, Hannibal's dinner-cruise excursion boat: the dinner, service, and entertainment were all very nice. Hannibal is very tourist-friendly: from what we saw, it is really "Mark Twain-ville." Everything was convenient, including the "trolley" open-air excursion coaches that circulated around the area and could also be hired for groups. The atmosphere was nice; and everyone in contact with tourists--including ordinary locals--was very friendly. Hannibal has enough interesting things to see and do to be a destination for a few-days' trip from just about anywhere. Everything went smoothly for the return trip: rental car dropoff at the Quincy airport, check-in with the friendly people at Great Lakes Airlines, the flight back to St. Louis, and the transfer to the "big" airline for the trip back cross-country. It was a great time! I wish more of our big group had thought to fly into Quincy and driving 30 minutes, rather than driving 2 hours up from St. Louis!
