Sacramento as the capital of California, but it had a very important role in one of the most popular events in US history--the Gold Rush. Back in 1848, James W. Marshall found gold in the Sierra foothills, about 50 miles away from Sacramento. His discovery spurred a rush of close to 100,000 migrants and immigrants to the area, prompting it to become its own city. Sacramento has the distinct honor of being the first city in California.

The Doubletree Hotel is part of the Hilton brand, which guarantees satisfaction. It features some of the biggest rooms of any of the Sacramento Hotels. Another Hilton property, the Hilton Sacramento Arden West, a full service Sacramento Hotel located in the Point West Business District. The hotel offers a free shuttle to nearby shopping and is minutes away from the airport.

The Radisson Hotel Sacramento is a Spanish colonial-inspired hotel and has its own lake. It features live concerts in the summertime and has a lakeside pool and spa. The Sheraton Grand Sacramento is one of many Sacramento hotels located downtown, convenient to the Sacramento Convention Center. This is a perfect Sacramento Hotel for those needing to stay close to the city. The Hyatt Regency Sacramento is across the street from the State Capitol, and in the heart of the city.

People come to Sacramento because of its picturesque valley locale. It's known as the "city of trees" because of its over-abundance of trees. Although not as glitzy as other California towns, like Los Angeles or San Francisco, Sacramento is a popular tourist attraction in its own right. Those interested in nature love to hike or bike along the Sierra Mountains. Those interested in history enjoy traveling to Old Sacramento, a 28 acre historical landmark. It's a glimpse to Sacramento back in the 1800s, complete with wooden sidewalks and horse-drawn carriages. Another popular destination in Sacramento is the California State Railroad Museum.
