In March 2004, I spent 3 delightful days exploring the Old Town area. My hotel on the river had a staff that bent over backwards to make my stay enjoyable, and then refused to be tipped.
Listening to the cloistered choir in the chapel where Maria Von Trap was a postulant was like stepping into the movie. Exploring the churches, the catacombs, the mountain trails, the city walkways, the market, and the shops presented new adventures at every turn. The woodcarver's shops were eye candy at it

this is the most amazing apartment in Salzburg what I ever have seen. We had the luck to rent it over New Years and if you plan a vacation in Salzburg we would recoment this place.

Reading all of these reviews really made me miss this amazing place. I visited in the Spring of 2007 and only heard about Christmas in this magical area. I have such a travel bug and would do anything to return! I wish I could win the lottery and just travel all over Europe forever! There is no place like it; it is like a completely different world, where everywhere you look-you see beauty ::sigh::

Salzburg is perfect for Christmas

My husband and I also stayed at the Goldener Hirsch and went to the midnight mass, Christmas 2005. Hearing the Silent Night hymn played on a guitar (for which it was originally written) as the mass ended and everyone filed out singing into a snowy night was awe inspiring. And there is a performance of work by Mozart every night somewhere. Plus the Christmas market, the street musicians and the best Vienerschnitzel I've ever had. We started the day touring in the sunshine but then a rainstorm took over in the afternoon.
Everything was still beautiful. Walked in the rain, went on a boat ride in the rain, loved where we stayed the Plainsbrucke. Ramsau was also beautiful in Berchesgarten.
