In March 2004 I spent 3 delightful days exploring the Old Town area. My hotel on the river had a staff that bent over backwards to make my stay enjoyable and then refused to be tipped.Listening to the cloistered choir in the chapel where Maria Von Trap was a postulant was like stepping into the movie. Exploring the churches the catacombs the mountain trails the city walkways the market and the shops presented new adventures at every turn. The woodcarver's shops were eye candy at its best.A period dinner with instrumental and opera music between each of the 8 courses encouraged new aquaintences with fellow travelers. There seemed to be musicians on every corner. Special candies and the decorative lights in Old Town and on the river made a wonderful dessert to a very enjoyable day as I walked back towards the hotel.People were courteous kind and always welcoming. The castle at the mountain top is worth a day and a hundred pictures all by itself and there's a facinating story about the cardinal's coat of arms. The next mountain over has a hiking trail to a former hospice at the top which now houses a wonderful pub with great food. The trail starts at the birthplace of the author of \Silent Night\. Everywhere you turn there is another adventure and another wonderful story.
