I went to Costa Rica with my husband in Aug 04, and had the most amazing time. We flew into San Jose, but did not spend any time there. We took a puddle jumper out to Quepos, and then a taxi to Manuel Antonio, where we stayed for a week. We stayed at Villas Nicolas - http://villasnicolas.com/ -- really amazing rates, service, and views. The hotel helped us with reservations for horsebackriding, zip-line, hikes, and figuring out how to get around. Our room was amazing! we had a kitchen, and huge balcony with hammock. We took a short walk to a market and bought stuff for breakfast and ate on our balcony each morning, while we looked for monkeys in the trees. We loved hiking and looking for monkeys -- we saw white-faced monkeys, and squirrel monkeys - so cute! We went there in Aug, which is actually Costa Rica's low season -- the weather was warm (but to be expected) -- actually perfect for what you'd expect in a rain forest. The rates were better, and the locals told us that their high season is even hotter. We didnt end up spending too much $ while there, Costa Rica is definitely a bargain! A good site for research about Costa Rica is: http://centralamerica.com/cr/maps/mapcosta.htm.
