I first visited Sandpoint when I was 8 years old (1958 or so) and never forgot it even though there wasn't much there. I have since visited numerous times over the years and have witnessed enormous growth but a continued "small town" feel. Sandpoint is beautiful any time of year. My suggestion if you want to visit, is to fly into Spokane and then drive through Coeur d'Alene (another fantastically beautiful place to visit) and up to Sandpoint. Total driving time should be about 1 1/2 to 2 hours or so and well worth the trip. If you want great "home cooking" and fantastic pies, don't miss the Panhandler on 1st Avenue. Great food, service and atmosphere.
