Established in 1942, this wildlife refuge covers over 15,000 acres and includes a wide variety of native trees and shrubs, as well as old fields, croplands, and ponds. The refuge provides a habitat for migratory waterfowl and provides protection for endangered and threatened animals such as the bald eagle and the American alligator. Hiking trails and a visitor center are on site.
