1.Sarasota - Wow! What a vacation! :)

I recently vacationed in Sarasota Florida and was really surprised at what a wonderful vacation spot it is. The airport is a small and very easy airport to get in and out of. (And has great mainstream airlines with a lot of direct flight options.) The beaches are some of the best in the world...especially SIesta Key! There are a bunch of wonderful hotels to choose from including the Ritz-Carlton Hyatt Regency Colony Longboat Key Club Resort & Spa to chain hotels like Homewood Suites Holiday ... More
I recently vacationed in Sarasota Florida and was really surprised at what a wonderful vacation spot it is. The airport is a small and very easy airport to get in and out of. (And has great mainstream airlines with a lot of direct flight options.) The beaches are some of the best in the world...especially SIesta Key! There are a bunch of wonderful hotels to choose from including the Ritz-Carlton Hyatt Regency Colony Longboat Key Club Resort & Spa to chain hotels like Homewood Suites Holiday Inn La Quinta etc etc.... The downtown is very walkable and has a Starbucks Whole Foods and more 'mom and pop' restaurants and coffee shops as well! You could easily stay for a week and visit a new attraction each day. From Mote to Jungle Gardens to Ringling to Selby to G.WIZ and beyond.... Wow!!! All great for kids and adults alike! The dining choices are also unbelieveable. They have 5 star to burger shacks.... I can't wait to get back!

2.Sarasota Airport Memories

I'm a flight attendant and have been for years. (In fact I remember the days when Orlando's airport terminal was a quonset hut on the non-military part of McCoy Air Force Base.....which incidentally is why to this day the airport code for Orlando is MCO) Anyway I remember Sarasota/Bradenton's airport from a time when there were no jetways. We had airstairs rolled out to the airplane door and passengers descended them onto the ramp then into the tiny terminal building. As we would taxi in fr... More

We had airstairs rolled out to the airplane door and passengers descended them onto the ramp then into the tiny terminal building. As we would taxi in from the runway and get close to the building a common sight was a long line of skycaps and wheelchairs. There would often be 15-20 of them lined up to take elderly and incapacitated people into baggage claim. My airline flew into many Florida airports but Sarasota/Bradenton always seemed to have the longest wheelchair lines. Equally as interesting as that was what inevitably happened inflight between for instance Detroit and Sarasota. The 15-20 elderly and incapacitated people who had ordered the chairs for their Florida arrival had been brought to the airplane in Detroit in wheelchairs. They were assisted to their assigned airplane seats and sat there for 2 1/2 or 3 hours until we reached Sarasota. BUT WAIT! A miracle took place inflight for many of those people for when we got to Sarasota they were ABLE TO WALK OFF THE AIRPLANE forsaking the waiting skycaps and wheelchairs! PRAISE THE LORD!!

Sarasota Airport is Fresh Clean Spacious Quick Easy & Friendly with Convenient Parking & has Direct Flights to/from Chicago Midway. If only it had direct flights to/from Chicago Rockford International Airport another great small airport.... More

Flew in/out of this airport weekly for 3 years. EXCELLENT airport! As with many small airports the CARRIER I use switched to all RJ's. Couldn't tolerate the discomfort so ended up back at TPA.... More
