I highly recommend visiting Seoul. There is enough English around to make it possible to self-navigate, but having a native speaker along is best. Plenty of English speaking tours are available. You realize when visiting Seoul that the USA isn't as superior in technological advancement as you might think. It is crowded but has an excellent transportation system. The food and shopping are excellent and fascinating. Hotels are nice and tours of the DMZ and various historic sites are plentiful. The old and new of the architecture standing side by side is breathtaking. It is also worth remembering that Seoul - all of South Korea for that matter - was dust and rubble in the 1960s. Now you see opulence and economic success everywhere. Shop for Chanel in its underground mall; ride the coaster in its world's largest indoor amusement park, Lotte World. Lots of music and theater, festivals and outdoor markets. The airport is stunning. Don't forget to try one of their bath houses that are far more than just baths; mineral baths, mud baths, nap rooms, saunas, therapeutic rooms with jade and other heated stones you lie in. All for less than 10 bucks.
