On an island that seems to offer postcard views with every crane of the head, this sea garden fits in perfectly with Gulangyu's visual personality. Built in 1913 by Lin Er-jia, a guy with a heap of money, it features islands of rock connected by a zigzagging footbridge (Nine-Bend Bridge) exposing tranquil views of rare plants, fishponds and the South China Sea. The Listening-to-the-Tide pavilion is worthy of several extended Kodak moments. Admission: CNY30.
