Singapore, Singapore

Singapore
Located just off the southern tip of Southeast Asia's Malay Peninsula, the island nation of Singapore continues to grow as a popular tourist destination. Singapore is a country that has experienced vast urbanization over the past several decades, yet still remains home to a diverse people who live under the governing laws of a republic. For hundreds of years, Singapore was a strategic point of military conflict between nations within the region, most recently in World War II. The island changed hands between the British and Japanese after the famous WWII battle, the "Battle Of Singapore," eventually becoming a Crown Colony after the Japanese surrender. The year 1959 ushered in the era of self-government, and the nation was granted its independence in 1965.

Traveling to Singapore

Singapore has become a popular tourist destination due to its proven reputation of being one of the safest countries in the world. Strict laws and strict law enforcement has ensured the safety of its citizens and the millions who have chosen to visit the island republic. When you travel from the United States to Singapore, there are a number of options available through air travel, such as Singapore Airlines. Being so close to the Malay Peninsula and the countries of Malaysia and Thailand, a traveler will find even more options available in getting to Singapore, whether by plane, boat or even train.

Once in Singapore, travel options are incredibly affordable, whether you choose to rent a car, take taxis or rely on the incredibly efficient and reliable public transportation system. You'll also find an extensive array of hotels to choose from that are close to public transportation stops, and range in price from inexpensive, to moderate, to The Four Seasons Singapore.

Activities in Singapore

Whether you're into arts and entertainment, enjoying drinks and soaking up the Singapore nightlife followed by lazy days, beaches, shopping or seeing local sites and soaking up Singapore's rich history and culture, you'll find it all at an arm's length on the small island. There are many tours to choose from if you're into group or family activities, as well as tours that focus on a couple's ability to escape and enjoy a few romantic evenings.

The climate is very warm year-round as the island sits only 85 miles from the Equator. If you choose Singapore travel, be sure to pack your shorts and most "breathable" shirts, as everyday is full of heat and humidity. If you enjoy worshipping the bright light we all know as the sun, Singapore will offer you enough sunshine to keep you smiling long after the sun has set. Along those lines, there is a wide array of outdoor activities that can be enjoyed in Singapore from water sports to enjoying some absolutely gorgeous golf courses. If you're a golf enthusiast, you'll be thrilled to know that there are packages specifically designed for your Singapore vacation.

Any Singapore tour truly has a little something for everyone. While being worlds away, and full of ancient Asian culture, there are familiar signs of home, including many citizens adept at speaking the English language, more than a handful of big buildings and the daily hub-bub of commerce.
