We absolutely love it.No it is not the most beautiful of Islands in the Caribe nor is it the most affordable but itis gorgeous and you will absolutely see some of the most beautiful views there you will stand on some of the most beautiful beaches in the Caribe (I've seen most) and you will absolutely enjoy yourself. Also please note the location of St. Thomas it is in the heart of a magnificent archipeligo of both the British and the US Virgin Islands St. John is crazy beautiful Jost Van Dyke (BVI) is 5 miles off shore and stupid fun and beautiful sick SCUBA diving in every direction including on-island Golf Boating eating incredible jerk chicken BBQ'd right on the beach and served with a smile (with tip) or doing absolutely nothing....my wife likes this one.Yes some of the local islanders are unfriendly but I asure you you find that everywhere. I bet you have an unfriendly neighbor. And most of the food is not the best and most of the servers are not overly excited to serve you. But my wife and I do mind tipping especially after we learned the local wages. We have found a simple way to make great friends of the servers and keep the servers as friends perminently...tipping. The locals make very little money a decent tip especially an off-timed tip their attitude leaps to attention. My wife and I have purchased jewelery in St. Thomas. We have found great deals and have caught others trying to charge too much. But we have found that is hit and miss anywhere in the Carribean.I have an idea go there yourself decide for yourself. Look for us on the beach. In fact out favorite beach is a local lesser known beach and we think it is the most beautiful beach in the world. You will have fun.

Good and Somewhat LessThe town of Charlotte Amalie (capitol) is great for shopping but the prices arn't as goo as would first appear. Still they are better than the states. There is also a pant preserve nearby with many native plants to wonder through. If you have time see if you c an play a round of golf along the north coast at Mahogany Run it can be a real challenge especially # 10. If you can get out to the east end of the island there is an oceanarium (spl?) where you walk out on a bridge and then take an elevater down into the depths. Just palin NEAT !As you wonder the island keep a lookout for thelocals most especially the highschoolers. They have a very nasty attitude toward the tourists. Nuff said they can be really nasty.Obviously I've spent some time there over the years in my job.

St. Thomas is by far our favorite place to visit in fact we're shopping for a 2nd home there. Sure there are some prettier islands but we just loved the variety of cultures and the warm welcome we receive each time we visit. We don't look for the islanders to treat us special because we're visitors in fact that would be a turn-off. Shame on the tourist that feels an island has to feel obligated to treat them special just because they're plunking a few dollars into their economy - you're there as... More

We don't look for the islanders to treat us special because we're visitors in fact that would be a turn-off. Shame on the tourist that feels an island has to feel obligated to treat them special just because they're plunking a few dollars into their economy - you're there as a visitor by your choice not theirs. Our favorite spot is Magen's Bay beach. We lucked out last time and were the only cruise ship in port so the beach had perhaps 6 people tops some island children playing on the rocks otherwise we had the area all to ourselves then relaxed at the outdoor bar and eatery and had a fabulous time trading barbs with the locals. We've been 3 times and will be going back in a couple months hopefully with a house key in our hands. Was able to buy some beautiful body scarves there they have some of the best massage therapists and the folks at the tavern next to Blackbeard's Castle serve some of the finest fare. Walk the streets downtown and stop at one of the many street BBQ's always happening. Don't go to be treated like entitled Americans go to enjoy yourself relax mingle with some fun and authentic folks!

they don't exactly give you a warm reception while service people act put out. Where would they be without tourism? Plus big time attitude from airport security who was ready to throw me in jail for courteously trying to get my 6 yr. old a seat with her mother on the plane. DON'T FLY AMERICAN!... More
