I love STL. It is a great city to visit! One great thing is that most attractions are free except for special exhibits because it is all on public park areas. This includes the zoo one of the best in the US the art museum science museum which has a life-size replica of a T-Rex the botanical gardens and a statue garden. Also checkout the City Museum. The shopping malls are also great as well as the boutiques. Ivy Hill is a favorite. There are also great restaurants such as Fitz's. They have the best burgers and make their own soda. So delicious! Ted Drewe's an ice cream place has the best concretes ever! Don't forget to got to the Arch! STL is a great vacation place!

Rich in history culture and diversity the 6th largest metropolis in the U.S. is St. Louis. Museums galore beautiful parks excellent restaurants many ethnic festivals etc. More FREE stuff to do than anywhere – including the Zoo Art Museum Science Center History Museum the Muny Opera Anheuser-Busch tours and the museum under the Arch. I just named 4 or 5 days worth of FREE activities. ShowMe that in your town!... More

Like any city and I have visited many large metro areas St. louis has it's good and bad. If you want to compare it to other major cities you would have to say it is second tier comparable to Kansas City Cincinatti Pittsburgh Phoenix Denver Milwaukee etc. It does have a richer history than most of the 2nd tier cities and if you do a little research before you visit you will be surprised at it's historical significance. I don't understand those who say the city is dirty. The downtown is great and has seen approximately $5 billion in new construction in the past 3-5 years. Maybe some of the older areas are in need of revival but that is true of any city. Many marvel at the architecture of the older buildings downtown many that have been re-habbed into condos and lofts. Many of these buildings and houses around the city have been placed on the National Register for Historic Places. The city has many great neighborhoods:such as Lafayette Square Soulard Benton Park and the Central West End to name a few. Besides the free stuff that has been mentioned often St. Louis has Forest Park at 1300 + acres (twice as big as Central Park) it is one of the largest urban parks in the country. There is plenty to do out of doors there year round (for those who say there is nothing outdoors to do. Besides Forest park there is Tower grove Park (also on the National Register of Historic Places) and Lafayette Park the oldest urban park west of the Mississippi. St. Louis can boast about a lot of things:like the Symphony Orchestra-the second oldest in the U.S.. It is also considered one of the finest; The St. Louis Zoo is considered one of the top 2-3 zoos in the country as well. The Missouri Botanical Garden rivals any in the country and the Climatron there is world reknowned (architecturally) and a must see. Religious or not one should definitely see the Bascilica St. Louis. The interior boasts the largest collection of mosaic art in the world. btw I live in FL but love STL
