Better than St Croix 
St Thomas is hands down a better choice. Theres more to do and see. I visited both when in the Navy. People were nicer than on St Croix. Stayed at Frenchmans Reef and while yes expensive the service made up the for difference. Every place has there seedy places. You just have to maintain your composure. If you walk around anywhere extremely intoxicated your asking for trouble. And for gods sake dont go alone.
