Stratford is a hidden gem. We spent one night at a charming B&B for one night right outside the city on the way home from Mystic where we had spent two days. First we toured Mark Twain's house and second following a sumptuous breakfast we visited the very tourist friendly Atheneum America's oldest running art museum. Stratford is a hidden gem. We spent one night at a charming B&B for one night right outside the city on the way home from Mystic where we had spent two days. First we toured Mark Twain's house and second following a sumptuous breakfast we visited the very tourist friendly Atheneum America's oldest running art museum. The staff personally directed us to galleries we might like and where we viewed as much world class art as we could for two hours. Next we toured Harriet Beecher Stowe's home right next door to Mark Twain's estate. Restaurants were plentiful but we chose a small micro brewery whose cheerful waitress and good comfort food encouraged us to return one day. Don't miss Hartford -- you will be pleasantly surprised!
