I had to live at the Okura for 2 months waiting for my apartment in Hiroo to be ready. It is the most outstanding hotel I have ever stayed in. I had to live at the Okura for 2 months waiting for my apartment in Hiroo to be ready. It is the most outstanding hotel I have ever stayed in. The service was INCREDIBLE-the staff bent over backwards to make me happy. I asked where the ice machine was at 1:52 pm one day and within 45 seconds there was a knock and a worker with a bucket of ice. They also left a bucket of ice for me EVERY DAY for the duration of my stay at 1:45 pm whether I was there or not. The food was excellent at every restaurant in the hotel and the breakfast buffet was to die for! I gained 4 pounds the first week I was there and had to work it off the next week in the gym! I would never dream of staying anywhere else in Tokyo and it was across the street from the American Embassy and right down the road from IBM where my now-ex was a VP. In the two years I lived in Tokyo a meal at one of the Okura's restaurants was always a treat and the breakfast buffet was a Sunday tradition. The hotel is beautifully appointed spotlessly clean and has the most incredible service of any place I have ever been. I am almost 50 years old and the Okura is the standard by which I judge all hotels. The Peninsula in Hong Kong comes pretty close but nothing compares with the Okura. I would never miss a chance to stay there again--I've sent many people there and they have all come back with rave reviews and totally spoiled. There is no hotel that is better and I've been around the world and back and stayed in countless hotels and none of them provided a better total guest experience. It's expensive and it's worth every penny!!!!
