WE LEFT NY ON A SHIP BOUND FOR TRIPOLI, LYBIA . THE TRIP TO TRIPOLI WAS FANTASTIC. WE STOPED AT CASABLANCA AND NAPLES, ITALY. I WAS LUCKY TO HAVE TOURED THE RUINS AT POMPEII. I ARRIVED AT THE PORT IN TRIPOLI AUGUST, 1955. I REMEMBER THAT IT WAS VERY,VERY HOT. I WAS STATIONED AT WHEELUS AFB FOR 18 MONTHS. THE BASE HAD EVERYTHING A YOUNG AIRMAN NEEDED. THE BX, MOVIES, CLUBS AND A POST OFFICE. I TOOK A LOT OF PICTURES OF THE AREA WHILE TRAVELING AROUND TOWN AND THE DESERT. WE SWAM IN THE BEAUTIFUL

My husband, daughter, son-in-law and I were fortunate to be able to visit Libya in 2004. We went to Leptis Magna and were amazed. We were very unsupervised and able to enjoy the ruins at our leisure. The people were more than accomodating to us. I would go back in a heartbeat. It was one of our best trips.

Lived in Lybia for 3 years in the early 60's and enjoyed each day I was there. Worked for a U.S. oil company as a pilot anf flew many parts of the desert as the coastal area. Was a good experience for my family and I and consider it one of the better times of our life. It was like stepping back in time 200 years. The people were very friendly and met many local people and left some great friends. It is an interesting place to see.
