I was stationed there from aug 1950 to mar 1952 at age 17 I grew up there traveled to many places by motorcycle up and down the coast met many arab and Italian people who helped shape my life they helped make me what I am today which I pass on to my grandchildren there is so much history there if you have the opportunity to go...do it...may do that myself

In November 2005 I was lucky to get into Libya for two weeks of seeing the best Romanand Greek ruins and the fantastic Sahara desert. Everywhere we went the people welcomedus back \Americans? We are so glad to see you.\ The Archaeological sites are well takencare of the museums full of priceless statues and mosaics. And the Tuareg guides gave usan amazing ride through the Sahara complete with racing over dunes dancing to reggaeand tribal love songs under star filled night skies barefoot in the sand. Plus we rodecamels for three days across some of the most beautiful terrain ever. Go to Libya before themillions discover it's riches.

but...I believe they are coming around...would be nice to be able to drink there and have rooms that are decorated a little more up to date than the 70's. But I guess you have to start somewhere. Hard to believe they are in a prohibition though. But they should know whats best for their people I guess.

I went to tunisia it is another beautiful place you have to visit i did a tour in the sahara desert and i visit the sight where they make the star wars movie for only about $300 including 3 days in 4 star hotel ( me my 3 kids and my wife) it was very nice the peaple very freindly and then i visit libya it was nice but we like tunisia the beaches oh....the food every thing was nice .we went for 3 weeks and we extend our stay to 8 weeks yes 8 weeks the kids love it ....every thinks there nice a lot of people in the usa travel to england or they looking for places english spoken but i think every were i went in tunisia they do speack english and they tell you every thing about the usa...

I lived in Tripoli for two & half years both in town and on Wheelus Air Base when it was in operation. It was a great experience - people were friendly and there was a great Italian influence there. Spoke some of both languages. It was an experience of a lifetime.
